We wanted to give you an overview of some of the work the committee has been up to over the last 12 months as well as the significant achievements by our teams and players across all age groups. We have seen quite a number of small, but important, changes to add to the overall service to our club members. We hope you will agree that we are moving forward and using our limited resources appropriately.

Club house & Café

  • All club house rooms, hallways and floors were repainted

  • Installed two new flat screen TVs to broadcast club news and provide better atmosphere in Café

  • De-cluttered the café and installed new high stools and shelf table

  • Added two new windows in café with security shutters to provide a view out to the astro-pitch

  • Installed new glass door drinks cooler in Café

  • Club house office cleared and new doors & office desk installed

Club administration

  • Two new club welfare officers appointed (Mary O’Donnell & Tony Poutch)

  • New administrator (Amanda) to help with the many office-based tasks in running the club

  • Our league secretaries attended monthly league meetings to keep abreast of ongoing changes within the 4 leagues in which our teams play

  • Completed mandatory Garda Vetting for all committee & team management & coaches

  • Completed SafeGuarding-One Child Welfare certification for 30 managers, coaches & committee. The remaining people being scheduled to complete by March 2018

  • Completed Sports injury & CPR certified training for 22 coaches & Managers

  • Completed FAI badges for Kickstart 1 & 2, 4v4, and provided strength & conditioning coaching

  • Deployed EZPayment Plus online tool to enable members to pay fees online and in instalments

  • Maintained annual club fees at same level to previous year for 3rd year running

  • Deployed new modern look & feel to our club web site

  • Planned & Executed another very successful Shankill FC Champions league & Crinken cup

  • Our U13 boys took part in a 2-leg, cross border friendship match with Shankill Utd. of Belfast. Both teams travelled to each other’s clubs and, in addition to the games, a range of other activities were laid on for the visitors. It was a huge success and we hope to repeat it next year

  • We held our first annual Pitch’n’Putt competition for the kids in December

Coming soon/Next steps

  • We will soon see the opening of Stonebridge Park pitches having lobbied & liaised with DLR council throughout the year

  • We will continue working with Shankill GAA, and other local sports clubs, to lobby and liaise with the DLR council on their plans to build all-weather facilities in some local Shankill schools and in Shanganagh park.

  • As always we need to ask for your help in the coaching & managing of the teams, and also with the committee work, so please speak to us if you would like to help out.

Team achievements

We have, once again, seen some wonderful performances by many of our teams and individuals during the year. Suffice it to say they have all done us proud and we are very happy with the progress. Unfortunately, we also lost some teams this year and we are doing all we can to find ways to rebuild and develop those teams.

Here is just a flavour of some of the excellent team and individual performances & achievements during the season. Very well done to all.

We now have 4 girls teams at U12, U14/U15 & Senior ladies

  • U14 Premier

  • Runner-up in premier league, BD Sports league & runner up in Molly O’Toole cup

  • U14A & Premier

  • 6 U14 Girls were selected for the Gaynor cup squad and

  • 5 U14 were picked for the FAI Emerging Talent initiative

  • Several of our U12 & U14 girls represented Shankill in the Community Games. U14 got to semi-finals

  • Senior ladies

  • Winners of DWSL junior cup and Runner-up in league

  • Aoibh Hall - Senior ladies & Shankill girls academy

  • Completed her National D coaching license and is now coaching in the MGL Academy and FAI Emerging Talent Programme

  • U10A1

  • Had a fantastic season in a highly competitive league, played some fantastic high energy football with goals galore throughout the year

  • U10B

  • Unbeaten all year despite going up 3 divisions mid-season

  • U13

  • Highly successful 2-Leg Cross border friendship initiative with Shankill Utd. in Belfast. The team raised funding for the trip through a sponsored Table Quiz and sponsored runs.

  • U14A

  • Reached the final of the Hollywood Cup in the AUL Complex. The boys showed huge spirit to pull back from a two goal deficit in normal time but lost out in extra time

  • U14B

  • League winners and runner-up in the cup

  • U18 (incl. 5 of our U17)

  • Won majority of their games and showed huge commitment to the club, and each other, by sticking together even though their league had challenges and was eventually disbanded. The team will start at U19 in Jan

Finally, on behalf of the committee, I would like to wish our players, parents, coaches, managers, caretakers and all club members who give so generously of their time throughout the year, a very happy Christmas and New year. The club could not operate as well as it does without your invaluable support. We hope you enjoy the festive break and look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.

Kind regards

Dave Mulcahy - Chairman Shankill FC
